I happened to see a verified badge on a profile of a contractor(writer) in elance. This intrigued me. I knew about ratings given by clients to contractors and this rating is considered best when it is 5 stars, but this tag seemed strange. There was link that said, Know more about it. I clicked it to understand what it was.
It said, the contractors ID is verified through a skype video call, and needs one to submit few details about themselves. This was a process to create a healthy professional atmosphere and win trust of the clients.
This needs one to submit their skype details and a scanned copy of government ID, a thumbnail size photo of the contractor and schedule a time for interview.
Good news is all free members who joined as contractors can also get themselves verified. This will have some good impression over the client. I can say this, because many projects which are open for bidding ask for a contractor who has a skype account and is accessible easily.
As a second writer, I have seen, that a writing project will need many changes in ideas, the presentation and some times the keywords, so that the article turns out to be satisfactory in client's point of view. This is why being accessible to the client is an important necessity.
If one is skeptical about not uplaoding government ID, they better stick to being unverified, but mention whether they have a skype account or are they accessible all the time, while bidding for a project. While doing so, they should not violate the guideline about providing contact information to the clients in any form.
Being verified contractor, will obviously gain trust of client.
