I had been searching a lot of tips for bidding right on elance. I was lucky to have found another writer who has hired me, part time. This will help me maintain cash flow, particularly through the difficult phase of getting a project at elance, with some funds held up at iWriter, waiting for cash out. Bidding for work is sure tricky business. We cannot simply advertise about ourselves while bidding.
I read a post which said, If the client, asks for a specialization like wordpresser expert, it is better to begin the introduction with, the years of experience being a wordpress user and write about proficiency level. Since I was searching for low budget projects, which were priced below $70,( It had to be small projects for me, because I wrote when ever I was free, I being a home maker and mom to a kid who is almost five, need to be on my toes. I squeeze time to work for a writer bid at elance, search about ways to improve on my profile and not to mention, blog about my experience:) I found many projects available and many bidders sending their sealed proposals.
Coming to bidding techniques. I understood that, it is difficult to bid for low budget projects, because, all the star rated writers and firms bid, for them too, even if the price offered is lesser than what they demand. This is a tact to lure a novice who is trying elance platform as a client, into hiring them. With some extra dollars spent, they can be assured that, work is done, neatly and professionally. This is what they are made to believe. While the other, types of client, who are searching for writers who are ready to write for very less pay will eventually find the lowest bidder.
This does not mean that lowest bidder is the one who gets the project. We should understand two things here, One is there is tough competition, even for low budget projects, second, is we will have to be negotiable and mention the same, in the bid. This opens up a discussion and may culminate into a good project deal, when handled correctly. I will be discussing about all types of projects and which is suitable for whom, in my coming posts.
